Our Welded Mesh Gabions are manufactured with square mesh wires welded together at their intersection points. They have many applications, including erosion defence, river control, reservoirs, retaining walls and agricultural and commercial landscaping. They are easily installed, being stood up and attached to form a retaining wall configuration. We have three wire sizes available depending on your installation requirements.

These Welded Mesh Gabions are a high-performance gabion basket system ideal for building long-lasting retaining walls, embankments, and riverbank defences. Manufactured with bi-axial wire mesh in a 75 mm x 75 mm square pattern, the wires are welded at each intersection to maintain rigidity and form. These gabion baskets offer superior structural stability and a clean, consistent appearance for both commercial and environmental applications.
- Used in civil engineering for retaining walls, slope stabilisation, and embankment support.
- Ideal for landscaping features including raised beds, planters, and decorative walls.
- Permeable design prevents water pressure buildup behind wall structures.
- Galfan wire mesh gabions are suited for harsh, wet, or flood-prone locations.
- Complies with BS EN 10223-8:2013 for structural gabion standards.
Designed for ease of installation, the mesh gabions are supplied flat-packed and quickly form into boxes with minimal effort. Unlike traditional woven systems, they require no tensioning, and retain their shape once assembled. This simplifies wall construction, allowing installers to align units and backfill efficiently. The Galfan coating—a zinc-aluminium alloy—provides exceptional corrosion resistance and a service life of up to 50 years.
Wire mesh gabions like these are widely used in landscaping, highways, flood protection, and rural development. Whether stabilising slopes, controlling riverbanks, or building tiered walls, they provide durability, permeability, and structural performance. Offered in 3 mm, 4 mm, and 5 mm gauge options, these cages suit a wide range of site conditions and design requirements—from light-duty garden projects to heavy civil infrastructure.

Gabion Baskets for Structural Retaining Walls:
These welded gabion baskets are a robust choice for permanent walls on highways, developments, or boundary lines. Their modular design and pre-welded seams reduce installation time, especially in large-scale infrastructure projects where alignment and uniformity are critical.
Mesh Gabions in Landscaping Projects:
Thanks to their geometric shape and clean edges, welded mesh gabions are a popular option in garden design and hardscaping. They’re often filled with local stone to blend into natural environments while offering structure for terraces or planting zones.
Wire Mesh Gabions in Erosion Control:
Where rivers or channels risk undercutting or embankment failure, these gabions act as revetments or wall faces that resist hydraulic pressure. The welded construction offers added stiffness against flow forces, while the Galfan coating ensures longevity even in fluctuating water levels.
Durability and Design Options:
Gabions are available in various wire gauges: 3 mm for small walls, 4 mm for medium-duty applications, and 5 mm for high-load structures. Weld strength is maintained at 75% of the wire’s ultimate tensile strength, offering a strong, reliable solution for both temporary and permanent builds.

What are welded mesh gabions used for?
They’re used to build retaining walls, slope defences, and erosion barriers in civil, landscaping, and water engineering projects.
How do welded mesh gabion baskets differ from woven gabions?
Welded gabions maintain shape without tensioning and offer a clean finish. They’re easier to assemble and align during installation.
Which wire size should I choose?
3 mm is for garden or light-duty walls, 4 mm for mid-height retaining, and 5 mm for heavy-duty structures like highways or riverbanks.
Are these wire mesh gabions suitable for wet environments?
Yes, the Galfan coating resists corrosion and is rated for up to 50 years of service in damp or flood-exposed areas.
