Stillages for Heras fencing, hoarding and barriers

Temporary fencing stillages

The Heras fencing stillage holds mesh fence panels in a flat, square stack clear of the ground, so a full set goes onto a wagon and off again in one lift without handling each panel. Choose it for any fleet of mesh panels that moves between construction sites, infrastructure works and events, where panels thrown loose on a trailer bend at the corners and tangle together.

Hoarding panel stillages

Steel hoarding panels are heavier than mesh panels and carry a painted or printed face that scuffs and dents when panels are dragged across one another. The hoarding panel stillage keeps steel site hoarding and solid metal fence panels in a supported stack, in sizes for the common hoarding heights, and is the one to choose where the hoarding has to arrive presentable on the next site.

Crowd control barrier stillages

Pedestrian barriers are awkward to carry in numbers, and their legs and hooks catch on each other when they are piled loose. The crowd control barrier stillage holds them in an ordered stack and takes fixed leg, loose leg and plastic barriers, so one design serves event and construction fleets alike.

Rubber fence feet stillages

Rubber fence feet are heavy to handle, and HERMEQ makes two stillages for them. The fence feet stillage has removable arms and flat-packs when empty, so it is the better choice where empty stillages travel back to the yard or are stored in numbers between jobs. The drop front stillage for rubber fence feet has a front door that lowers, so feet slide out without being lifted over the top rail, and it suits sites where feet are unloaded by hand.

Road barrier stillages

Barriers for street works, footway closures and excavations are light individually and unwieldy in quantity. The road barrier stillage holds them as a single forklift load and comes in more than one capacity, so the stillage can be sized to what a depot or a single works gang sends out. The barriers themselves are in the plastic road barriers range.

Ground mat stillages

Ground protection and vehicle access mats are flat, heavy and hard to grip, and a loose stack slides when it is moved. The ground mat stillage is built for HERMEQ ground protection mats and holds the stack together for lifting by forklift.

Road form stillages

Steel road forms set the line of kerbs, slabs and road edges, and a form bent in transport spoils the next pour. The road form stillage takes both rigid and flexible forms.

Storing a Heras fencing run on stillages

A run of temporary fencing comes back from site complete when every component has its own place in the yard and on the wagon. The temporary mesh fencing panels go on the Heras fencing stillage, the rubber feet on a fence feet stillage, and the couplers and stays from the range of fencing clamps, stays and accessories in a steel bin. For a straight run, feet are counted at one more than the number of panels, because every joint and both ends stand in a foot, and each stay needs a foot of its own or a weight from the concrete fence blocks and ballast range.

Steel stillage bins and pallet cages

Alongside the purpose-built stillages, the range includes general storage for site stores and depots, and the full selection of site storage stillages, bins and cages sits in its own category.

Mesh and solid steel stillage bins

The mesh stillage cage bin has open mesh walls, so stock can be counted and checked without unloading it, and it suits bulky fittings and site equipment. The solid steel storage bin has sheet sides and a sheet base, which keep small fixings and parts from falling through.

Foldable wire mesh pallet cages

The foldable wire mesh pallet cage is a collapsible cage for bulk materials, reclaimed components and stock that comes and goes.

Stackable steel stillages for yards and depots

Once the type is settled, a stillage fleet is planned around two limits: the space it takes in the yard and the space empty stillages take on the return load.

Stacking full and empty stillages

The Heras fencing, crowd barrier, road barrier, ground mat, road form and removable-arm fence feet stillages stand on feet or legs that seat on the stillage below, so the weight of an upper load is carried by the frame beneath and not by the panels or barriers inside it. Empty stillages stack in the same way.

Removable arms and folding cages for return loads

The Heras fencing, fence feet and road form stillages have removable arms, so an empty stillage breaks down to its base and a wagon returning from a finished job carries more empties than it could with every frame built up. The wire mesh pallet cage collapses for the same reason.

Forklift guides and pallet truck access

Forklift guides or runners hold the forks in place under a loaded stillage as it is raised onto a wagon bed. The purpose-built fencing, barrier and mat stillages are made with them, and where they are listed as an option they are the right choice for any stillage that will be lifted full. The mesh bin and the pallet cage can also be moved by pallet truck, for stores without a forklift on hand.

Self-colour or powder coated finish

Most stillages in the range come in self-colour steel or in a choice of powder coated colours, applied in HERMEQ's own coating plant. Self-colour is bare steel and suits stillages kept under cover or within one yard. A coated finish adds protection against corrosion on stillages left out on site, and giving each depot, contract or equipment type its own colour lets yard staff see where a stillage belongs and what goes in it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a stillage?

A stillage is a reusable steel frame, cage or platform that holds a load above the ground so it can be stored, stacked and moved as one unit by forklift or pallet truck. Stillages are reused from job to job and kept in yards, depots and warehouses.

Is a stillage the same as a pallet cage or a post pallet?

Both are types of stillage. A pallet cage has mesh sides on all four faces and is used for loose or bulk contents, while a post pallet has a base and corner posts with open sides and is used for loads that need stacking more than containing.

Are panels, barriers and mats included with a stillage?

No. Each stillage is sold on its own, and the panels, barriers, fence feet, mats or road forms it is designed to hold are ordered separately from their own categories.

Will a stillage fit panels or barriers from another supplier?

The temporary fencing stillage is made for standard mesh fence panels, and the crowd control barrier stillage is designed around selected HERMEQ fixed leg, loose leg and plastic barriers. For another make of panel or barrier, compare its size and leg design with the stillage dimensions given on the product page.

What should be checked on a stillage before it is lifted?

Look for cracked welds, bent posts or arms, and feet that no longer sit square, and make sure any removable arms are fully seated. Check that the load sits inside the frame and within the capacity stated for that stillage, that the forks are fully in the guides or runners, and that the stillage at the bottom of a stack is sound and level.

Where are HERMEQ stillages made?

The stillages for fencing, hoarding, barriers, fence feet, ground mats and road forms are manufactured by HERMEQ in the UK, with the steel processed in-house. The mesh and solid steel bins and the wire mesh pallet cage are UK made as well.
