The Wates Ballast Hoarding System is a heavy-duty ground-based stabilisation setup engineered to improve the wind resistance of HERMEQ metal fencing and hoarding systems. With twin ballast trays and a sloping stabiliser arm, this all-in-one kit ensures security, safety, and long-term resilience without ground penetration or mechanical fixings.

It’s ideal for projects needing flexible positioning, including inner-city works, phased developments, or perimeter protection over uneven surfaces. The system locks into place using a coupler that integrates both hoarding panels and anti-lift components.

  • Double tray configuration - Allows flexible ballast placement for uneven gradients.
  • Sloped galvanised brace - Stabiliser connects 2/3 up the hoarding panels for optimal resistance.
  • Integrated foot with bracket - One unit delivers support, lifting prevention, and structural base.
  • Modular deployment - Rapid setup with no ground fixing required.
  • Visual finish - Black steel provides a discreet look with industrial-grade strength.

Built for high-performance fencing stability, the Wates Ballast System offers a complete support solution for HERMEQ hoarding systems. It prevents tipping and movement in adverse conditions, ensuring public and contractor safety throughout the life of the project. The system was developed to meet strict standards of a major UK contractor, Wates, and has become a preferred standard across large sites and sensitive boundaries.

The rear tray sits 1.5m behind the base of the hoarding panels. The front tray is fully adjustable, offering flexible weight distribution for irregular terrain or curved fencing lines. These trays accept standard HERMEQ ballast blocks and can be easily repositioned as required.

At the centre of the system is a galvanised stabilising arm which connects high up the hoarding panels and slopes back into the rear tray. This angled bracing design maximises the system’s structural integrity. Paired with the anti-trip foot, which doubles as a lift-prevention anchor, the system delivers unmatched protection against wind failure or tampering.

Each element of the system works in unison to provide a rigid, non-invasive anchorage method for metal fencing lines. It supports modular growth for sites expanding perimeter boundaries over time and removes the need for ground excavation. From live construction zones to long-term infrastructure projects, the system ensures compliance and continuity across all hoarding configurations.

HERMEQ stock a wide-range of Steel Site Hoarding, Temporary Fencing, Permanent Fencing & Road Barriers conforming to all required safety specifications and regulations.

Designed for HERMEQ’s hoarding panels and broader metal fencing configurations, the Wates Ballast System enables reliable, modular hoarding deployment on projects where wind loading, ground integrity, or rapid setup are key concerns.

  • Frequently used on projects where trenching or fixing is not viable, such as utility corridors, bridgeworks, or heritage sites.
  • Popular in high-spec build environments where aesthetics and safety must be balanced, including retail refurbishments and school perimeter works.
  • Suitable for both city-centre worksites and rural, wind-exposed developments.

Installation & Compatibility
This ballast setup interfaces directly with HERMEQ hoarding systems via standard couplers. Installation is simple: place the trays, insert ballast blocks, attach the anti-trip foot, and position the stabiliser. No digging, no machinery, no delay.

Adjustable Tray Benefits
Unlike fixed ballast products, this dual-tray setup adjusts to your site needs. Push the front tray closer or pull it toward the rear for slope alignment or custom weight balancing. This is especially useful for phased layouts or fencing around angular service structures.

Anti-Lift & Anti-Trip Built-In
The base foot incorporates an anti-lift bracket that integrates with the lower coupler. Once tightened, panels cannot be lifted or dislodged from their positions. This reduces theft risk and improves safety for on-site operatives and the public.

High Durability Finish
The rear arm is galvanised for weather resistance. All other components are painted black to create a consistent, low-profile visual effect on site. The heavy-duty steel construction ensures long-term viability over multiple redeployments.

What is the purpose of the dual-tray design?
It allows varied ballast positioning for better load distribution and supports site-specific adjustments on gradients or exposed locations.

Do I need ground fixings for this hoarding system?
No. The Wates Ballast System is entirely surface-mounted and uses ballast weight and bracing for stability—no ground penetration required.

What panel types is this system compatible with?
It is fully compatible with HERMEQ metal fencing and hoarding panels systems using standard panel couplers and ballast block trays.

Can this system be reused across sites?
Yes. All components are durable and designed for redeployment. They can be dismantled, moved, and reused on multiple sites with minimal wear.
