Crowd Control Barrier - Loose Leg

These loose leg barriers are made using a top tube bar, which is bent to form the shape of the loose leg crowd barrier. A second tube is then welded across the bottom of the barrier. The weakest part of these crowd barriers is where these two tubes are welded together. A circular tube welded to a circular tube does not allow a large surface area to weld. However, these barriers have the ends of the bottom tube crimped providing a much larger surface-to-surface connection. This allows for a stronger weld making the loose leg crowd barrier more durable than most. This results in a longer-lasting barrier making it perfect for hiring or using multiple times, making your money go further. This means the barrier is made using galvanised steel coils, which are then rolled into tubes. These tubes are then welded together to form the barrier. Pre-galvanised barriers will age and weather quicker than a powder-coated alternative. Powder-coated barriers are a better option when appearance is vital.

Please note that powder-coated barriers have a superior finish and the colours are commonly used to demark different zones or for branding purposes. However, it is worth noting due to the nature of the product and its intended purpose, there can from time to time be surface imperfections, such as scratches. This is because crowd barriers are moved in bulk (we handle over 5,000 daily) around our manufacturing & distribution centres, commonly with forklift trucks. What Makes A Good Pedestrian Safety Barrier?

Pedestrian safety barriers are versatile and used for a number of applications from improving construction site safety to effective event crowd control. What makes a “good” pedestrian safety barrier depends on which application you are using them for, but there are some general points that broadly apply across the board.

Strong

The safety barricade should be strong, allowing it to deal with the pressures exerted upon it by a large crowd or day-in-day-out use on a construction site. The best way to ensure your crowd barrier is strong is to check the thickness (gauge) of the steel used. Typically barriers labeled as demarcation barriers are made up of thinner gauge material. Ideally, effective safety barriers are made from 1.0-1.2mm thick steel.

Durable

To get the best return on your money you will want pedestrian barriers that can be used multiple times or are still in good enough condition to sell on once you have used them. Typically the “weakest” points on a barrier are where they are welded together. Therefore the fewer welds, the more durable and less likely to break the barrier is.

Stackable

Crowd control barriers need to be easily stackable so that when you are not using them on-site or at an event they can be transported and stored away easily without taking up excessive room. Loose-leg crowd barriers have detachable legs and so are easily stackable. With fixed leg barriers you should make sure the legs are staggered or offset to ensure they can easily stack against one another. Offset legs on safety barriers are also important for making the crowd barriers more stable and allowing them to deal with uneven terrain like on most construction sites.

• raised kerbs to mark vehicle and pedestrian areas

• to prevent pedestrians from walking straight onto roads
