The Z-Post – Dig-In is a lightweight steel barrier post designed to provide flexible, energy-absorbing support for Armco crash barrier systems. Ideal for areas where car traffic is present but heavy vehicle impact is unlikely, this dig-in version is buried directly into soft ground for stable support without the need for surface bolting.
With 1200mm or 1500mm length options available, this Z-profile post enables safer installations around car parks, pedestrianised service routes, and warehouse edge protection zones. While not as rigid as RSJ Posts, Z-Posts are valued for their ability to absorb lower energy impacts and minimise damage to vehicles and infrastructure.
- For light-duty zones – Ideal for use in low-risk vehicle traffic environments.
- Flexible design – Absorbs minor impacts, reducing system wear and maintenance.
- Dig-in ready – Installed by casting half the post into the ground for stability.
- Pairs with all HERMEQ Armco beams – Integrates easily with straight and curved components.
- Galvanised steel – Weather-resistant finish for external environments.
These Z-Posts offer a lower-cost alternative for barrier support where full impact resistance is not required. They are frequently used in conjunction with Straight Corrugated Beams and Curved Beams in commercial or institutional settings with light vehicle exposure. The dig-in variant avoids the need for concrete pads and is suited to turf, verge or loose-surface ground.
Common installations include staff car parks, pedestrian buffers, cycleway interfaces and protected walkways. For higher-risk or industrial zones, HERMEQ recommends RSJ Posts which offer higher load capacity. Both post types accept standard HERMEQ M16 Lap Bolts and Post Bolts, allowing quick and secure beam attachment.
HERMEQ stock a wide range of Armco components to support your barrier layout, including Straight Corrugated Steel Beams, Fish Tail Ends and Pedestrian Ends enabling complete site protection.

- Recommended for car parks, pedestrian edge control, or visual demarcation zones.
- Available in 1200mm and 1500mm lengths for site-specific impact needs.
- Galvanised finish ensures long-term resistance to rust and surface wear.
- Integrates into crash barrier systems using standard bolts and HERMEQ accessories.
- Not suitable for high-impact environments involving HGVs or forklifts.
Z-Posts are chosen where structural support is needed but full heavy-duty impact protection is not a requirement. Their slimmer profile reduces material cost and is easier to transport and install. Use in soft ground installations that need a minimal visual footprint or when segregation of pedestrians and vehicles is a priority.
Installations are fast and efficient — the post is placed in a pre-dug trench and set in with compacted fill or postcrete. It forms a reliable connection with HERMEQ safety beams and is often completed with Barrier Corners, Pedestrian Ends or Fish Tail Ends to complete the traffic barrier layout.
What makes Z-Posts different from RSJ Posts?
Z-Posts are lighter, cost-effective supports designed for low-impact zones. RSJ posts are stronger and used in high-traffic or HGV areas.
Where should I use Dig-In Z-Posts?
Use these posts in soft ground areas like grass verges, low-speed car parks, and perimeter walkways where surface mounting is not practical.
Are Z-Posts suitable for HGV traffic?
No, Z-Posts are best for light vehicle or pedestrian boundary control. Use RSJ Posts for HGV-rated areas.
Do they work with curved and straight beams?
Yes, they are compatible with all HERMEQ Armco beam types including straight and curved models.
