Sheet Piles - L8 (Galvanised)
HERMEQ are manufactures & distributors of Interlocking L8 sheet piles. These L8 sheet piles are manufactured & then galvanised to give them a longer life-span. The galvanising help to protect the sheet piles against corrosion. The L8 interlocking pile connect to one another using the special profile found on the edge of each of the sheet piles. These profiles allow the edge of one L8 sheet to slot into the sheet pile next to it. This provides for a stronger connection between the piles than a simple overlapping trench sheet & increases the strength of the L8 sheet piles once installed.
Interlocking sheet piles are difficult to manufacture due to the connection mechanism and the 3.5mm thick L8s are cold rolled. Fortunately HERMEQ benefits from being part of the HERMEQ Group. As part of the HERMEQ Group, HERMEQ Steel is one of the largest steel stockholders & processors in Europe. HERMEQ can from wide coil, completely manufacture L8 Sheet piles in-house and through our extensive national depot network deliver them nationwide to you on a next day service. This supply chain control means that we can offer you sheet piles at an unbeatable price, whilst ensuring quality, availability & full material traceability. On top of this all of our products are manufactured in the UK supporting the British Steel & manufacturing industries and saving against the environmental impacts of importing from across the other side of the world.

- HERMEQ are suppliers of a wide range of sheet piles and trench sheets, including the famous L8 inter locking sheet pile. Sheet piling retains soil, using steel sheets with interlocking edges. Our interlocking L8 trench sheets are available in a wide range of lengths from 1.2m - 5.0m, but alternative lengths of L8 sheet piles are available upon request. Sheet piles are installed in sequence to design depth along the planned excavation perimeter or seawall alignment. The interlocked sheet piles form a wall for permanent or temporary lateral earth support with reduced groundwater inflow.

L8 steel sheet piles are manufactured in-house across a number of stages. Firstly we receive the coil from a steel mill such as Tata Steel or Arcelor Mittal. We then slit the coil to the required input width - this is the width of the L8 Trench Sheet before it has been formed into the L8 profile. We then move this coil to our manufacturing facility. Here the coil goes onto our mill, the mill has several stands, which as the steel passes through form the profile of the L8 pile. Once the sheet is formed we have a punch press, which ads the lifting hole into the L8 sheet. Finally the sheet is cropped at the length you require, using a specially designed guillotine which takes on the form of the L8 profile, so as to cut it in one go and leave no bur. The L8 sheets are then packed, banded & sent for galvanising before being distributed to our depots or directly to our customers depending on the lead time and size of the order required. HERMEQ can manufacture up to 60 tonnes of L8 trench sheets a day and is a trusted supplier to the largest users of these sheets. If you would like to become a distributor of our sheet piles then please email distributors@hermeq.com.
L8 trench sheets are most commonly galvanised for clients such as the canal and river trust in the UK. This is to protect them against corrosion, which is important when the L8 sheet piles are used to line the banks of canals and marinas. The galvanised variety of L8 sheet pile is most commonly found in water environments for this reason.
Vibratory hammers are typically used to install sheet piles. If soils are too hard or dense, an impact hammer can be used to complete the installation. At certain sites where vibrations are a concern, the sheets can be hydraulically pushed into the ground.

- Trench sheets should only be installed and removed by competent persons using excavators specified to suit the size of trench sheet and the anticipated ground conditions/site constraints.
- Trench sheets are heavy and difficult to handle/pitch on site and these operations should only be carried out by experienced banksmen. Always ensure that the sheets are not lifted over personnel and that the trailing ropes on Quick Release Shackles cannot snag. Great care should be taken to avoid trapping fingers whilst pitching the sheets. Additional care must be taken in windy conditions when it is recommended that at least 2 persons are used to pitch the sheets.
- HERMEQ strongly recommend that a driving cap is always used to prevent unnecessary damage to the tops of the trench sheet when being driven into the ground using the excavator bucket.
- When stacking sheets on site it is recommended that they are placed in bundles of no more than 6 sheets and staggered on timber spacers to allow for ease of handling and to minimise the risk of trapping hands/fingers.
- In order to assist installation HERMEQ can supply guide walings and piling frames. For availability and details contact HERMEQ direct.
- Trench sheets must only be removed using extractors. Use of a quick release shackle for extraction will lead to damage of the spring mechanism.
- HERMEQ interlocking trench sheets can provide limited protection against groundwater ingress and should always be used with caution where high water flows are anticipated.
HERMEQ stock a wide-range of Trench Sheets, Groundworks, Trench Covers & Road Plates conforming to all required safety specifications and regulations.
